Michigan to suspend Sherrone Moore multiple games due to sign-stealing scandal, per report

Michigan is still bracing for potential NCAA punishment related to the sign-stealing scandal perpetrated by Connor Stalions, but head coach Sherrone Moore is reportedly set to serve a self-imposed suspension in the 2025 season.
According to ESPN’s Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel, Michigan is suspending Moore for 2 games as a result of the scandal that took place under then-head coach Jim Harbaugh. Moore, a longtime assistant for Harbaugh, was Michigan’s offensive coordinator in 2023 when Stalions was originally accused of advanced scouting opponents in order to steal signals.
The report details that Moore’s 2-game suspension would come in the third and fourth games of the season when Michigan is scheduled to face Central Michigan and Nebraska. That would be strategic on the part of Michigan with the Wolverines opening the season vs. New Mexico (likely with a true freshman quarterback under center) and then traveling to Norman to face Oklahoma, Moore’s alma mater, in the second game of the season.

The NCAA’s Notice of Allegations against Michigan that came toward the end of last summer cited 11 violations against Michigan, including 6 Level I Violations, the most severe possible. The NCAA and the university are working toward a resolution.
The suspension for Moore reportedly ties back to him deleting a 52-message text thread with Stalions after allegations of his sign-stealing came to light. That accusation against Moore is reportedly a Level II violation.
Moore previously served a one-game suspension during the first game of the 2023 season for a different case. That was the same time that Harbaugh was serving a 3-game suspension.
