The cause of death for former Ohio State offensive lineman Ben Christman has been revealed. A spokesperson for the Clark County (Nevada) Coroner’s Office stated that Christman’s death was caused by heart disease (cardiomyopathy) and an irregular heartbeat (cardiac arrhythmia).
UNLV announced on Feb. 12 that Christman was found dead in an off-campus apartment. He was 21.
Christman transferred to UNLV ahead of the 2025 season for Year 5 of his college career.
Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing,” UNLV coach Dan Mullen said in a program release. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our Leadership Committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration and friendship of all his teammates. Our prayers go out to his family and all who knew him. Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed.
Christman began his college career at Ohio State. After 2 seasons with the Buckeyes, Christman transferred to Kentucky for 2 seasons. He missed the 2023 season because of a knee injury but returned in 2024, appearing in all 12 games on special teams for the Wildcats.
Out of Richfield (Ohio) Revere High School, Christman was a 4-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. He chose Ohio State over scholarship offers from 20 other schools.
