Ex-Michigan QB named Week 1 starter at UCLA

A former Michigan quarterback is back in a starting role.
Thursday, UCLA head coach Chip Kelly named Wilton Speight the starting quarterback for the Bruins. Speight, a graduate transfer, has one year of eligibility remaining.

Speight transferred from Michigan at the end of the 2017 season, opting to use his final season of eligibility at UCLA. He played in just four games for the Wolverines last season, getting injured in the team’s B1G opener against Purdue.
He missed the remainder of the season with a back injury.
In those four games, Speight threw for 581 yards and three touchdowns while completing 54.3 percent of his passes. Michigan was undefeated in games Speight started last fall.
For his career, Speight threw for 3,192 yards and 22 touchdowns in three years at Michigan.
UCLA opens the season on Saturday, hosting Cincinnati.
