Michigan made a major hire for the coaching staff of Sherrone Moore this offseason, landing offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey to replace Kirk Campbell. That move paves the way for Lindsey to work with 5-star freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood as the Wolverines head into a new era offensively.
According to reports, Michigan is also promoting an assistant with a new role for the season. A report from MLive revealed that Steve Casula, the tight ends coach for the Wolverines, will serve as a co-OC this fall.
That promotion came via a new contract signed in early April. The two-year deal will reportedly pay Casula $500,000 annually in a significant bump to his pay.
Running backs coach and run game coordinator Tony Alford ($850,000 to $900,000) and defensive line coach Lou Esposito ($500,000 to $600,000) also received raises entering the 2025 season.

As for Casula, he is in his 2nd stint on the coaching staff at Michigan, and he does have coordinating experience in his background. He was an analyst on Jim Harbaugh’s staff from 2019-21 after serving as the OC for D-II Ferris State from 2017-18.
Casula was most recently the OC at UMass from 2022-23 before being hired to join Moore’s initial staff as the full-time head coach in Ann Arbor. Now, fans will have to wait and see how Lindsey and Casula work together after a dismal performance for the offense in 2024.
