Ryan Day draws high marks from Big Ten coaches for 2024 resiliency

Ryan Day is the current reigning head coach in the country after leading Ohio State to its first national title since 2014. That victory is the first title for Day as a head coach, and it instantly puts him among the elite leaders in the sport.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Athlon Sports compiled anonymous comments from coaches throughout the Big Ten, and the comments around the Buckeyes were expected. The usual chatter of Ohio State as the most talented squad in the conference, an elite wide receiver group and a loaded defensive unit were included, but one B1G coach had some particularly noteworthy comments for Day.
That coach specifically praised Ryan Day for the resilience he and his staff showed after losing a 4th straight matchup vs. Michigan. The anonymous coach acknowledged Day has to figure out the Wolverines, but they also praised Day as the reason why Ohio State is still among the elite programs in the sport.
The resilience of [Ryan] Day and his staff is really, really remarkable. I don’t think they get enough credit from the public for how they managed the playoff run after losing to Michigan. The calls for his job were absolutely ludicrous. Do they need to beat Michigan? Yeah, sure. But this program is at the very top of the sport because of the head coach.
Can Day do it again? While it’s clear his job is definitely not on the line this fall after winning it all in 2024, the pressure to produce another title is still there.
DraftKings currently has the Buckeyes as the favorite to win it all in 2025, coming in at +500 in the preseason national title odds. Texas (+550), Georgia (+650) and Penn State (+750) round out the top 4 in those odds, and fans can grab the DraftKings Ohio promo code to get into the action.
