Caitlin Clark is off to an electric start in her 2nd WNBA season with the Indiana Fever. Unfortunately, she will be sidelined multiple weeks with an injury, the franchise announced on Monday.
According to a team press release, Clark has sustained a left quadriceps strain and will miss at least 2 weeks. The Fever did not have an additional update at this time.
To call it a major blow to the Fever is an understatement. She is currently among the favorites to win the 2025 WNBA MVP Award at FanDuel, and it’s not hard to see why.
Through 4 games, Clark leads the Fever with 19 points and 9.3 assists per game while also tying for the team lead with 1.3 steals. Clark’s 9.3 assists are tops in the WNBA at this point, while she has 3 double-doubles in the first 4 games of the season.
The Fever are 2-2 to start the season, but the 2 losses have come by a combined 3 points, including a controversial ending in a close loss to the New York Liberty, the reigning WNBA champs.
On a larger scale, it will be interesting to see if the injury is a blip on the radar for Clark or something that becomes a lingering deal. The former Iowa star has been especially durable throughout her career, including appearing in all 40 games during her rookie season with the Fever.
During her time in College, Clark led the Big Ten in appearances 3 times, including the 2022-23 season when she led the country with 38 games played. Hopefully, she is able to bounce back stronger than ever after the injury.
