USC earns commitment from 4-star Atlanta DB, former South Carolina pledge

Four-star defensive back Peyton Dyer didn’t just decommit from South Carolina before committing to USC on Sunday, according to On3.
The 6-foot, 205-pound cornerback from Atlanta decided he wanted to rub a little salt in the Gamecocks’ wound. In his announcement that he was heading west to Los Angeles instead of staying in the South and going to Columbia, Dyer did a little play on words with USC and South Carolina both being known as “USC.”
“Now that I’m part of the real USC, I’m ready to work and build something special,” said Dyer, implying that Southern California was the real USC and not South Carolina, where he had committed last November to play starting in 2026.
But Dyer and his family took their official visit to USC this past weekend, and now he’s choosing the Big Ten over the SEC.
South Carolina’s loss is a big boost for USC’s 2026 recruiting class. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Dyer is the 299th-ranked player in the Class of 2026, the 24th-ranked cornerback and the 32nd-ranked player from the state of Georgia.
