Dan Lanning is ready to lead Oregon into its 2nd Big Ten season after an undefeated regular season and league title in 2024. He took his turn with the media for Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, and he was especially asked about the topic of tampering.
Wisconsin created waves this offseason when the Badgers launched a lawsuit against Miami over the alleged tampering of Xavier Lucas. With that case an interesting one taking place off the field, Lanning was asked directly if it is time that the NCAA begin cracking down on tampering.
Lanning was brief in his response:
After a long pause, Lanning was eventually asked if he could elaborate further. The head coach obliged, but it’s not a difficult mindset to understand.
“There have to be consequences to those actions, if not there will be actions like that,” said Dan Lanning.
Now that revenue sharing is entering the picture, it will be interesting to see if that has a role in how tampering is approached across the board. It’s clear some adjustments are needed to the current landscape, but how that is approached will have major ramifications for college athletics as a whole.
For now, it’s onto the 2025 season for Lanning and the Ducks.
