Tom Izzo is working on putting together the 2026 recruiting class for Michigan State basketball, and the head coach landed his first piece in significant fashion on Friday.

The commitment comes from Carlos Medlock Jr., a 5-foot-11 point guard who plays for Link Academy in Missouri. Medlock has been racking up offers this summer, including from high-major programs such as Michigan, Iowa, Oklahoma State and Creighton before committing to the Spartans.

“I chose Michigan State because I genuinely feel that I have a real connection with the whole coaching staff and they make me feel like I’m home,” Medlock said about his decision.

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Medlock is just outside of the top 100 players in the country for the 2026 recruiting class, checking in at 118th nationally. He’s also the No. 10 point guard in the country.

The 2026 recruiting class is just getting started, but the Spartans were able to deliver a bounce-back season on the hardwood last year. Now, Izzo and his staff will try and relay those results into some progress on the recruiting trail, and Medlock is a great first piece of the puzzle.
