Michigan is getting closer to naming a starting quarterback for the 2025 season.
Head coach Sherrone Moore met with reporters on Tuesday in Ann Arbor and said he will announce a starting quarterback on the Monday before Michigan’s first game.
“Set your clocks,” Moore said.
That would indicate a decision will be announced on Monday, Aug. 25. The Wolverines will open the 2025 season against New Mexico on Aug. 30.
Michigan has several contenders for the starting job, including true freshman Bryce Underwood, veteran transfer Mikey Keene, journeyman Jake Garcia and redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis. However, Underwood has long been believed to be the favorite to win the starting job out of fall camp.

Underwood was a late addition to Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class and was the No. 1 overall player in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
If it is Underwood who gets the nod, he won’t have long to get up to speed. A week after Michigan hosts New Mexico, the Wolverines will go on the road to face Oklahoma in Norman on Sept. 6.
