Fans have had it with Luke Fickell.

On Saturday in Madison, Maryland took a 20-0 halftime lead into the locker room over a Wisconsin team that couldn’t shift out of neutral. But while the Badgers were shut out in the first 30 minutes, it was Wisconsin’s head coach who drew the home fans’ ire. Chants to fire the third-year head coach rang down from the crowd.

Maryland was a 6.5-point underdog entering the Week 4 Big Ten matchup, with the Badgers trying to get to 3-1 in their conference opener and bounce back from last week’s blowout loss at Alabama.

That wasn’t happening though against the 3-0 Terrapins. Not even close.

Instead, the Wisconsin offense showed the same inability to score as it did against the elite Alabama defense the week before.

The “Fire Fickell” chants were loud and maybe not so proud as Wisconsin trudged into the locker room at halftime. Even worse for Wisconsin and Fickell, the game was on national TV, and sure enough, NBC picked up the chants.

Actually, the “Fire Fickell” chants began long before halftime, as this post proves:

Wisconsin finally managed a field goal in the third quarter, but that was it, and Maryland extended its lead in the fourth quarter to 27-3 with a little over 9 minutes left on a forgettable afternoon in Madison.

Fickell went 12-13 over his first 2 seasons with the Badgers. He went 7-6 in his debut season in 2023, then slid back to 5-7 last season.
