The San Francisco 49ers will reportedly be without a star defender for the rest of the season. Defensive end Nick Bosa sustained a season-ending torn ACL in the 49ers’ victory against the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bosa has a clean tear and will have surgery on the ACL. The rest of the 49ers’ defensive line understood the significance of Bosa’s absence and collectively stepped up on Sunday.

“I feel like the whole D-line room said, ‘We got to step it up,'” 49ers defensive end Mykel Williams said via ESPN. “Bosa is a great player for us and he holds a heavy load so when we lose him, everybody has got to raise their game.”

The Ohio State product was the 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and has made the Pro Bowl 5 times (2019, 2021-24). In 85 games with the 49ers, the 27-year-old Bosa has amassed 192 solo tackles, 91 tackles for loss, 64.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 13 forced fumbles, and 5 fumble recoveries.

In 3 seasons at Ohio State, Bosa tallied 47 solo tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and a touchdown. In 2017, Bosa was the Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year and a First-team All-American.
