Standout Penn State linebacker Tony Rojas will be out indefinitely after suffering a long-term injury during practice on Tuesday night.
Rojas’s serious injury was reported on Wednesday by several Penn State outlets. His absence is a big blow for head coach James Franklin and a Penn State linebacker room that is already thin and unproven.
This is Rojas’s 3rd season in the Penn State program, and now it’ll apparently be a long road back for the 6-foot-2, 230-pound junior from Fairfax, Va. According to those Penn State reports, Rojas was not seen during the viewing session of practice. One of those reports on Rojas, from Blue-White Illustrated, said his return this season appears unlikely.
The injury continued a long few days for Rojas, who fought back tears while walking off the field after Penn State’s devastating double-overtime loss to Oregon last Saturday night. Rojas left the Oregon game for a drive, heading to the medical tent and spending some time on the bike, before returning. He played 70 snaps and finished with 7 total tackles.
Through 4 games this season for No. 7 Penn State, Rojas has 25 total tackles, 13 of them solo, 2 sacks and 1 pass breakup.
With Rojas out for an extended period, if not the rest of the season, Penn State will lean on North Carolina transfer Amare Campbell and redshirt senior Dom DeLuca.
