Ohio State’s red zone defense is just showing off at this point.

The Buckeyes defense has now extended a streak of not allowing a single touchdown across the past 178 minutes and 2 seconds of game time — dating all the way back to Week 3 against Ohio. The Bobcats and Texas are the only teams that have scored touchdowns on Ohio State this season, and both only found the end zone once.

It gets even better than that, though. The Buckeyes have shut down the last 9 red zone attempts by opponents at scoring a touchdown, again going back to that 3rd quarter touchdown by the Bobcats.

Ohio State hasn’t only played nobodies since that point, either. The Buckeyes dispatched Washington and Minnesota, and the Huskies boast the 4th best total offense numbers in the Big Ten.

Illinois was close to snapping this streak, but Ohio State was having none of it. Facing 1st and Goal at the 4-yard line, Illinois failed to find the end zone on 3 attempts, instead having to settle for a field goal. The Buckeyes lead at the half in Champaign, holding a 20-3 lead over No. 17 Illinois.

Given Ohio State’s insane touchdown streak, it seems unlikely the Fighting Illini will find the end zone 3 times this afternoon to win this one.
