Ohio State vs. Penn State doesn’t quite have the allure that we all thought it would preseason, but Ohio State is still Ohio State. The Buckeyes marched down the field on the opening drive, culminating with a Julian Sayin touchdown pass to standout receiver Jeremiah Smith.
The Buckeyes lead Penn State 7-0 after a perfect 6-6 drive by Sayin. The OSU quarterback already has 71 yards on the day, including this throw to Smith for 6:
It really was too easy for the Buckeyes to start this one. Penn State received the ball first but ran just 4 plays, stalling after a solid run from Kaytron Allen.
Ohio State then put together an 11-play, 89-yard drive that took 6 minutes off the clock. The above touchdown by Smith is his 8th of the season, but his first score since the Buckeyes beat Illinois on Nov. 11.
Now, the question is whether Penn State will be able to put up a fight. The Nittany Lions are without quarterback Drew Allar and instead started Ethan Grunkemeyer, who has attempted just 2 passes in this one. Against this Ohio State defense, expect the Nittany Lions to lean on their strong run game in an attempt to steal one in Columbus.
