Dylan Raiola is out for the remainder of the season after breaking his fibula during Nebraska‘s 21-17 loss to USC in Lincoln on Saturday. That’s according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Raiola started the game 10-of-15 for 91 yards and a touchdown. Early in the third quarter, though, he was sacked and fumbled the ball, suffering his injury in the process. TJ Lateef, a true freshman, took over for the remainder of the evening.

It’s a tough end to the season for Raiola. Through 9 games, he has thrown for 2,000 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.

Lateef, a Southern California native, now takes the reins behind center. The 3-star recruit has played in 3 games, completing 16 of his 19 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown. He came on in relief of Raiola in a blowout win over Houston Christian on Sept. 13 and was a perfect 5-for-5 for 100 yards and a score. Lateef has also recorded 2 rushing touchdowns.

After a 5-1 start, the Cornhuskers have dropped 2 of their last 3 games. In Week 11, they travel to UCLA. After an open date, they pay a visit to Penn State. Nebraska then closes the season out at Memorial Stadium against Iowa.
