Half of the teams that put on the shoulder pads and helmets on Saturday will be disappointed. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case in the B1G, as the conference went 10-1 in non-conference games in Week 1.
In general, it was a great way to start the 2018 season for the conference.
Michigan was the only team to lose a non-conference bout this weekend, falling 24-17 to Notre Dame. Nebraska’s opener vs. Akron was cancelled due to whether.
Purdue and Northwestern were the only two teams playing in a B1G showdown, which accounts for the only other loss in the conference, as the Wildcats knocked off the Boilermakers 31-27.
Though there wasn’t much disappointment from around the conference, there were a few teams who still experienced some sadness, or felt the nerves, over the weekend. Here are sad fans being sad from Week 1 in the B1G:
Northwestern vs. Purdue
Purdue fans provided us with the first surrender cobras of the year. And some disappointing looks after losing the season opener at home.

Appalachian State vs. No. 1o Penn State
They call it “Happy Valley” but there were plenty of frustrated, nervous and worried faces in Beaver Stadium Saturday. Fortunately, the Nittany Lions survived the scare to start 1-0.

No. 23 Texas vs. Maryland
The Terrapins were the only unranked team to beat a ranked opponent on Saturday. Yeah, Texas fans were pretty disappointed to say the least.

Akron vs. Nebraska
Husker fans were pumped about the debut of the Scott Frost era at Nebraska. But the Sea of Red will have to wait another week when Colorado comes to town. Thanks a lot, Mother Nature.

No. 14 Michigan vs. No. 12 Notre Dame
The most anticipated season of the Jim Harbaugh era got off to a disappointing start. Fans, players, even Lee Corso, couldn’t hide their frustration at Notre Dame Stadium.

Nice win for Notre Dame! I didn't think Brian Kelly had it in him.
