Trace McSorley extends Penn State record, current TD pass streak to 29 games

Penn State fans were in pins and needles on Saturday.

In a game that should have been an easy showcase of the Nittany Lions’ young stars, it was anything but that. Penn State had to go to overtime with Appalachian State, but in the end, James Franklin’s bunch got the win.

En route to the 45-38 victory, QB Trace McSorley — who has received a bit of Heisman hype over the offseason — completed 21-of-36 passes for 230 yards and 1 TD in the game. He didn’t turn the ball over once to the Mountaineers, which may have been the difference.

With his lone touchdown pass, McSorley also extended a streak that is currently the longest in the FBS.

The 29 straight games with a TD pass is a Penn State record as well. Nobody has been able to do what the 6-foot play-maker has done in that regard.

McSorley also added 53 yards and 2 TD on the ground against upset-minded Appalachian State as well. Penn State will look to go 2-0 on Sept. 8 when the team travels to face Pittsburgh for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

The game will be televised on ABC, so the entire country may see McSorley extend his TD pass streak to 30 games, too.
