Oregon backup quarterback Austin Novosad intends to enter the transfer portal, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The Oregon backup had been in Eugene for three seasons, but he’ll be looking elsewhere for his final years of eligibility.
Across those 3 years, Novosad played in 7 games and accumulated 99 passing yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. He completed 12 of his 15 passing attempts as a Duck.
As alluded to in the tweet above, Novosad was a highly-rated prospect coming out of high school. He was considered to be the No. 137 overall prospect in the country and the No. 13 quarterback in the Class of 2023. Novosad originally chose Oregon over the likes of Ohio State, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Texas Tech.
Novosad’s move does not exactly come as a surprise following Dante Moore’s breakout year with the Ducks. Moore can return for one more season, but he’d also be a coveted draft prospect if he decides to move to the professional ranks. On top of that, Novosad lost the QB2 battle to Brock Thomas, who could also be on the team next season.
