This is a tragic story to share out of Tennessee.
Cecil Joyce and Mariah Timms with The Murfreesboro Daily News Journal reported that Michael Roper, a former football player for Carson-Newman University, was killed during a shooting Saturday evening. Roper’s former coach and Oakland High School coach Kevin Creasy confirmed the news on Sunday.
Current Oakland High defender Jalen Locklayer was also injured in the shooting. Details of his injuries are not yet known, but he was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment.
The shooting is currently under investigation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the two families currently dealing with this tragedy.
