New England Patriots wide receiver and former Maryland standout Stefon Diggs is reportedly facing felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an incident earlier in December.

Court documents allege that Diggs’ incident, which was first reported by Boston 25 News, happened Dec. 2, a day after the Patriots thrashed the New York Giants 33-15 on Monday Night Football.

The station reported that Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, made a remote appearance in Dedham District Court on Tuesday, seeking to have the police report impounded, arguing that the details should remain sealed.

The Patriots released a statement to Mike Reiss of ESPN that read: “The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Diggs leads the Patriots with 970 receiving yards on 82 catches with four touchdowns in 2025. New England is 13-3 and can clinch home field advantage in the NFL playoffs with a Week 18 home victory against Miami along with a Denver loss against the Los Angeles Chargers.
