Michigan guard LJ Cason will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season with a torn ACL.
The program announced that news on Saturday evening, one day after he suffered the injury in a big win over Illinois. Cason was one of the top bench guards in the country and averaged 8.4 points per game before tearing his ACL.
“First and foremost, our hearts hurt for L.J.,” coach Dusty May said in a statement. “You never want to see a young man who has poured so much into this program have something like this happen. However, if there’s anyone equipped to handle this and the rehab process, it’s LJ. He’s resilient, he’s disciplined, and he has an incredible support system around him.”
This is a significant blow for the Wolverines, who have National Championship aspirations this spring. Cason was Michigan‘s top backup for starting point guard Eliott Cadeau and also played minutes at shooting guard this season.
An excellent shooter, Cason hit more than 40% of his 3-point tries before going down with the injury. He will be difficult to replace for a Michigan team that’s hoping to make it back to the Final Four in 2026.

This injury could also have an impact on Cason’s 2026-27 season. He’s just a sophomore so he has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining beyond this year.
Freshman Trey McKenney is a candidate to get more playing time in Michigan’s back court moving forward. The Wolverines will be in action again on Thursday night against Iowa.
