Nolan Winter, a key frontcourt cog for Wisconsin, will miss Saturday afternoon’s regular-season finale against No. 15 Purdue because of a lower-body injury.

CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported earlier Saturday that the junior center would be out for the key Big Ten showdown in West Lafayette that tips off at 4 p.m. ET on CBS.

Winter is averaging nearly a double-double this season, with 13.3 points per game along with 8.6 rebounds per contest.

At the very same time that Rothstein posted his report on Winter’s status for Saturday, Wisconsin’s Stats and Info social media account also reported that Winter would be sidelined for the road matchup.

Wisconsin’s report revealed that Winter didn’t even travel with the Badgers to Purdue for the game. Winter suffered the lower-body injury during Wednesday night’s home blowout victory over Maryland that boosted Wisconsin to 21-9 on the season. He was limited to 21 minutes against the Terrapins before his night ended earlier than he wanted it to.

Winter suffered the injury when he fell hard on a putback layup off a rebound, and he was down on the court for several minutes while trainers looked at him. He had to be helped to the locker room by his teammates.

Now, Wisconsin won’t have one of its key players as it tries for the road upset to end the regular season in an attempt to build momentum for next week’s Big Ten Tournament.
