The combination of an unlimited transfer portal and Name, Image and Likeness largesse makes for some wild postseason transactions – and transactions that didn’t happen.
One of the latter comes from Ohio State superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who says he eschewed an offer to depart the Buckeyes after the 2025-26 season that would have shocked college football.
“I knew especially at the end of that game (against Miami in the Cotton Bowl) that a certain program was going to come at me very hard,” Smith said after Saturday’s Ohio State spring workout. “Not gonna say no names, I think everybody here knows who it was. But I wasn’t goin’ nowhere.”

Smith didn’t spill any secrets, but it isn’t too hard to connect the dots and draw a conclusion. Ohio State’s final game of the season being against Miami, combined with the fact that he is from Miami and played his high school football at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in nearby Hollywood leaves one to draw a pretty straight line to the Hurricanes.
Smith returns to Columbus for his third season after hauling in 162 receptions for 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns. He finished this 2025-26 season with 87 receptions (fourth most in the country) for 1,243 yards (fourth) and 12 touchdowns (sixth).
