Elliot Cadeau picked a heck of a time to score a season-high in points.
Well, Cadeau tied his season-high, at least. The star Michigan point guard dropped 19 points with 2 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, also hitting 8 of his 9 free throw attempts. Cadeau drove the bus for the Wolverines, who secured their first national title since the Fab Five got it done in 1989, beating UConn 69-63.
And because he drove the bus, Cadeau was named the NCAA Tournament Final Four Most Outstanding Player as the confetti fell.
Cadeau wasn’t always the most efficient scorer for the Wolverines this season, but he didn’t need to be. The former North Carolina Tar Heel is an excellent facilitator, a fighter and an efficient shooter from range. He does things that the box score simply doesn’t track.
Most importantly, Cadeau protected the ball well during Monday night’s matchup against the Huskies in a game that UConn wanted to drag through the mud.
Now, he’s a champion.
Michigan was as impressive as it’s possible for a basketball team to be this NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines demolished Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona, then controlled one of the best rising coaches in the game to take home the national title.
Who could possibly steal Dusty May’s crown next season?
