Detroit Casinos Post Highest Revenue Since May, Topping $111 Million

It was a bit of a good-news, bad-news situation for the three Detroit casinos in March.

The good news was the casinos recorded their highest monthly revenue since May, posting $111.5 million in March.

The bad news is it was still down compared to March 2025 and the lowest March total since 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic limited capacity.

March Revenue Down 4.5%

The $111.5 million in revenue last month was an increase of 11.5% compared to the $100 million the trio did in February.

Surpassing the $110 million mark has been a challenge for Detroit, doing so just twice in all of 2025. Despite that, March has traditionally been one of the largest revenue months for the Detroit casinos in the past. It earned that distinction over the last four years.

Last year, March recorded $116.8 million in revenue, so this year is a 4.5% decline year-over-year.

Here’s a look at how March has played out in recent years.

YearMarch Detroit Casino RevenueYoY Percentage Change
2022$120,928,3809.1%
2023$117,796,410-2.6%
2024$122,262,2663.8%
2025$116,784,353-4.5%
2026$111,516,954-4.5%

Revenue Narrowly Down in 2026

The Detroit casino revenue has been staying pretty close to the 2025 pace through three months.

Overall, revenue is down less than 1% after March, but only one of the three Detroit casinos is behind its pace from a year ago.

Detroit CasinoRevenue (Jan-March 2025)Revenue (Jan-March 2026)% Difference
MGM Grand Detroit$150,087,830$150,369,6730.2%
MotorCity Casino$94,937,657$95,294,3200.4%
Hollywood Casino at Greektown$72,072,186$68,941,703-4.3%
Total$317,097,673$314,605,696-0.8%

MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity Casino are just slightly ahead of where they were at this time last year. Hollywood Casino at Greektown is a little over $3 million behind pace, which is leading to the overall decline.

Part of the reason that Hollywood Casino could be seeing the dip is the continued construction project happening on Monroe St. right in front of one of the entrances to the casino. This $20 million project is limiting pedestrian access on the major street and has been happening since last summer. Completion on the project isn’t expected until Q3 of this year, so it could continue to impact Detroit’s casino business.
