Drew Allar is staying in the state of Pennsylvania to continue his football life.

The former Penn State star quarterback was selected on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft on Friday night, going No. 76 overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the 12th player to come off the board in the third round, and Allar became the 4th quarterback to be selected in this draft.

After cementing himself in Penn State football lore during a 4-season run in State College that included a trip to the College Football Playoff semifinals in the 2024 season, Allar is heading just a little west of Happy Valley to the Steel City. Pittsburgh is where this draft is being held, so Allar’s name being called by the tradition-rich Steelers came with a little more juice than normal on Friday night.

After taking the Nittany Lions on that long run to the CFP semifinals a few years back, Allar didn’t quite finish his college career at Penn State the way he wanted to. The Nittany Lions had huge expectations in 2025, but it all went south after an awful start to the season led to the firing of head coach James Franklin.

Soon after, Allar was sidelined, too, playing in only 6 games in 2025 because of a broken ankle. Despite the negative final impression that he left on NFL scouts with that last season gone wrong, Allar still managed to be picked on Day 2 of the draft. And with the Steelers’ uncertain quarterback situation entering the 2026 season, Allar could have a chance to play sooner than later.

There is still uncertainty surrounding the status of legendary QB Aaron Rodgers and whether he’ll be coming back to quarterback the Steelers this fall. That could give Allar some immediate chance for action in the Steel City.

With Allar and Franklin gone, Penn State is starting a brand new era in 2026 under new head coach Matt Campbell. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the Nittany Lions’ chances to contend for a Big Ten title this fall:
