Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo was fuming when asked about the latest leadership turmoil taking place in East Lansing.
Michigan State is set to lose its president and athletics director within a month of each other. President Kevin Guskiewicz is heading to Clemson. As officially announced on Monday, former AD J Batt is heading to Kentucky.
While departing in late May, Guskiewicz labeled Michigan State’s Board of Trustees an “unsustainable situation,” insisting the board is too preoccupied with settling past grievances and is not set on looking forward. He took a pay cut to leave for Clemson.
On Monday, Izzo spoke with MSU reporter Chris Solari with some strong words on the turmoil. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’ll be very honest… I can’t stand what’s going on, I’m not gonna overtalk about it now, but I am in the very near future,” Izzo told Solari. “I’ve had it. This is self-inflicted. We just lost the best president that’s ever been here, one of the best. There’s other dominoes that get affected when things go wrong like that. I’m very upset about it, and I’m sick of it.”
Soon after, Izzo insisted that he will release a further statement on the issue and called on the 600,000 MSU alums to “start rallying together.”
