Dusty May is reportedly leaving Michigan for the NBA.

ESPN insiders Pete Thamel, Adam Schefter and Shams Charania are reporting that May is finalizing a deal to become the next head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. May’s big move comes just months after he led the Wolverines to the national championship.

Thamel reports that May was drawn to the opportunity to coach former Duke star Cooper Flagg.

The Mavs job will be May’s first time coaching in the NBA. May, 49, is an Indiana alum and was a student manager with the Hoosiers from 1996-2000.

May’s first assistant coaching job came in 2005 at Eastern Michigan. He served under current Georgia coach Mike White at Louisiana Tech and Florida.

In 2018, May landed his first head coaching job at Florida Atlantic. He was named Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2023, the year he led the Owls to their first-ever Final Four appearance in program history.

May was Michigan’s coach for just 2 seasons. He posted a 64-13 record with the Wolverines, leading U-M to the Sweet 16 in Year 1 before this past season’s national championship run.
