Wisconsin reportedly narrowing in on Texas COO for vacant AD role

Wisconsin is searching for a new AD, and according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel the Badgers are narrowing in on Texas deputy AD and COO Shawn Eichorst. The Badgers are looking to replace Chris McIntosh, who resigned in April as Wisconsin’s AD to take a Big Ten office job.
Notably, Eichorst is a graduate of Marquette and served as Wisconsin-Whitewater’s AD from 1999-2003.
As you can see above, Eichorst served as Miami’s athletic director in 2011 and 2012 before taking over at Nebraska, where he served as the Huskers’ AD until 2017, when he was fired amid Nebraska’s struggles to field a dominant football team.
Texas hired Eichorst in 2018, and he’s served various roles for the Longhorns ever since.
Wisconsin athletics is in desperate need of a jumpstart. The Badgers haven’t posted a 10-win season since 2019 and, while it’s consistently made the NCAA Tournament in recent years, has failed to make a deep run. Eichorst, if Wisconsin hires him as reported, will have to make decisions on what to do with head coaches Luke Fickell and Greg Gard.
