Penn State made a major addition to its 2028 recruiting class on Thursday.

The Nittany Lions picked up a commitment from 4-star quarterback James Armstrong. Penn State beat out the likes of Kentucky and Pitt for his commitment, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

Armstrong is a huge pickup for Penn State in the class of 2028. He’s currently ranked as the No. 169 overall player and the No. 10 quarterback in the nation for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Armstrong is also an in-state prospect for the Nittany Lions, making this an even-more important recruiting win for Matt Campbell and his staff. Armstrong attends Hopwell High School in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and is regarded as the No. 4 overall prospect from the state of Pennsylvania.

He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds. In addition to Kentucky and Pittsburgh, Armstrong also had offers from programs such as Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State and North Carolina, among others.

Armstrong is the third recruit to commit to Penn State in the class of 2028, joining 4-star cornerback Deonte Flemings Jr. and kicker Carter Petri.

These prospects are set to enter their junior seasons of high school football this fall, so there’s still a long way to go before they sign on the dotted line and officially become Penn State Nittany Lions.
