Michigan State will reportedly retain President Kevin Guskiewicz over Clemson

Michigan State president Kevin Guskiewicz will not be the next president of Clemson University after all.
According to Michigan State writer Justin Thind at SpartanTailgate, Guskiewicz is now set to sign a 5-year extension with $1 million per year to stay in East Lansing as Michigan’s State’s university president. Guskiewicz was approved to become the next president at Clemson in May.
That’s not all, though. According to Thind, the Spartans are still set to move on from Athletics Director J Batt, whose buyout was set to be halved on account of Guskiewicz’s departure. Even with Guskiewicz staying, Batt will be taking the AD job at Kentucky to fill in for outgoing Wildcats AD Mitch Barnhart.
Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo reportedly played a major part in Guskiewicz’s retention, alongside 5 MSU Board of Trustees members and major doners, per Thind.
Notably, Guskiewicz is staying for personal reasons, not financial ones. That’s significant, considering Guskiewicz’s originally citation for leaving was the “unsustainable” environment caused by Michigan State’s Board of Trustees, adding that the board was too preoccupied with settling past grievances.
Izzo spoke out about the entire situation in June, and mentioned that it was time for Michigan State to start “rallying together.”
It seems his tactics were effective.
