Notre Dame and Indiana have reportedly canceled their home-and-home series, which was set to take place during the 2030 and 2031 seasons.
That’s according to multiple reports, but the news was first shared by college football insider Matt Fortuna on Monday.
On3’s Chris Low added additional context on Monday, stating that Indiana had been “evaluating” its approach to nonconference scheduling given the current College Football Playoff format.

This news comes as Notre Dame and USC have announced plans to renew their rivalry series beginning in 2030. The Fighting Irish are also set to play Alabama in 2030 and Florida in 2031, among other power-conference opponents.
Given Indiana’s rise and Notre Dame’s consistent success under Marcus Freeman, the matchups between the Fighting Irish and the Hoosiers likely would have been among the most-anticipated games on the entire college football calendar for those seasons.
Despite sharing the same state, Notre Dame and Indiana have only played 30 times in their history. The Fighting Irish are 24-5-1, though the most recent regular-season meeting came way back in 1991. Notre Dame and IU did meet during the first round of the College Football Playoff in 2024, which was a 27-17 victory for ND.
