Joel Klatt explains why Oregon has ‘the best roster in college football’

Joel Klatt heard the argument on Tuesday from FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd that Oregon has had great rosters for many years now, but that’s where fellow FOX analyst Klatt interrupted Cowherd and took issue.
He agreed with Cowherd, but with 1 big caveat about the 2026 version of the Oregon Ducks.
“Not like this though,” Klatt said.
Cowherd believes that this season’s Oregon roster, highlighted by returning star quarterback Dante Moore, is the best one that the Ducks have featured during their run of dominance in recent years. After Cowherd started to reference Oregon’s recent rosters always missing something to get the Ducks to the mountaintop, that’s where Klatt had to lay the hammer down about Dan Lanning‘s super-stacked Oregon roster in 2026.
For Klatt, Oregon teams of the past were always talented but always a little too flashy, and he said they couldn’t compete at the line of scrimmage with this group that Lanning has in store. Klatt believes that Lanning “has transformed” Oregon’s roster structure since he arrived in Eugene in 2022.
Which leads up to what the Ducks will throw out there in 2026, with Klatt even comparing this Oregon roster with the SEC powerhouse teams of the recent past like Alabama and Georgia. Yeah, Klatt even went there.
“This is a very different roster than what Oregon has had in the past,” Klatt said. “This is the best roster in college football, this is the most experienced roster in college football. They are unquestionably, in my eyes, the favorite to win the national championship and the No. 1 team in the country.”
