Ryan Browne throws 3 touchdown passes, leads Purdue to season-opening win over Indiana State

Ryan Browne had an up-and-down year last season, but was still named the starting quarterback for Purdue in the Week 1 matchup against Indiana State.
It was only one game, but Browne showed major improvement as he finished with a career-high 317 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Boilermakers’ 44-19 victory on Friday night.
This is a promising sign for the Boilermakers, as Browne wasn’t able to sustain any sort of consistency last year. He finished the 2025 year throwing for 2,153 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He completed only 58.9% of his passes in 2025.
His leading wide receiver on Friday night was Asaad Waseem, who finished the game with six catches for 107 yards and 1 touchdown.
Browne’s performance helped open up the rushing attack of the Boilermakers, as they finished with another 206 on the ground for 523 total yards of offense.
The competition will get much tougher in Week 2 when the Boilermakers will host an ACC foe in Wake Forest. Opening kickoff for that game is at 12 p.m. ET, and the game will be on Fox Sports 1.
