Bryce Underwood reacts to Kyle Whittingham’s comments on QB1 status

Outside of the end result being a victory, Michigan’s Week 1 matchup with its in-state peer to the West went about as poorly as possible.
The Wolverines needed all 60 minutes (and potentially then some) to take down Western Michigan, 13-12, in a game that saw them outplayed for much of the night and needing two tries at a Hail Mary attempt in the closing second(s).
Quarterback Bryce Underwood may have thrown that final touchdown and become a brief hero, but his overall stats tell a different tale. The former highly touted recruit completed 12-of-22 passes for 170 passing yards and an interception to go along with that miraculous score.
Underwood tacked on some solid production via the ground, but media members and even his own head coach expressed some levels of disappointment following the performance.
After Kyle Whittingham explained that Underwood having the starting job isn’t “infinite” and that “at some point we gotta turn a corner” on Monday, the signal-caller was asked about his response to that remark two days later.
“There were comments about that?” Underwood said. “That’s cool. I didn’t see that…it’s cool.”
Apparently unaware of his coach’s previous comments, a mellow Underwood appears to be focusing on a bounce-back performance in Week 2.
With Oklahoma visiting Ann Arbor, the level of competition is certainly being raised while the pressure continues to mount on the Michigan native.
