Detroit Casino Revenue Falls Just Under $109 Million In August

August was another positive month for Detroit casino revenue.
The three commercial casinos in the Motor City produced $108.9 million in revenue last month, a 3% increase compared to last August’s $105.7 million.
Detroit continues to build toward its highest casino revenue year since before the pandemic. It has surpassed over $100 million in revenue in every month for 2026
MGM Grand Detroit Collects 48% Share
Of the three Detroit casinos, it was the MGM Grand Detroit that took in the most revenue from August.
The MGM Grand Detroit brought in a 48.6% share with $52.9 million of the revenue.
Here’s a look at how each of the three casinos performed in August, according to data from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
- MGM Grand Detroit: $52,900,704
- MotorCity Casino: $33,770,690
- Hollywood Casino at Greektown: $22,190,647
These three casinos generated $8.8 million in state tax revenue in August, as well as an additional $17.1 million in Detroit city tax revenue.
Detroit Casinos Revenue Up 2% in 2026
Through eight months of the year, the Detroit casinos are now sitting at $868.3 million in revenue.
That is now up 2.1% compared to a year ago. Last year, through eight months, the three casinos had $850.7 million in revenue.

Currently, Detroit is on pace to surpass $1.3 billion in yearly revenue based on monthly average. That would again be the first time it has done that since before the pandemic.
If the casinos are able to maintain a similar percentage gap compared to last year, it would keep the revenue just under $1.3 billion, coming in at $1.29 billion. Either would still be a positive step forward for Detroit in 2026. The Michigan online casinos are sure to also set a yearly revenue record as well.
September Historically Low Revenue Month
September should be a good measuring stick for the Detroit casinos.
The month has been one of the lowest for revenue each year before moving into the stronger fall/winter seasons.
Here’s how the last four years have looked for Detroit in September
- September 2025: $98.2 million
- September 2024: $101.2 million
- September 2023: $100.0 million
- September 2022: $100.8 million
With that established, anything above $101 million would be above average for Detroit. Should the casinos hit $1.3 billion for the year, it may need a bigger boost than reaching just $102 or $103 million.
