Nebraska sets home/home series with historic college football program

On Wednesday, On3Sports’ Brett McMurphy reported that Nebraska and Notre Dame have set a home and home series which will begin play in 2032. It’ll be the pair’s first matchup — assuming they don’t meet in the postseason — since 2001.
The two teams will start the series in 2032 in Lincoln, and the following year, the game will be in South Bend.
Not playing in a conference has put Notre Dame in a situation where the Fighting Irish aren’t playing an extremely difficult schedule. They have two tough games this year against BYU and Miami. Last year they played the Hurricanes, and that game played a huge role in them being left out of the College Football Playoff.
In college football, there is a huge talking point on whether or not teams should schedule difficult non-conference games. Some coaches are hesitant to schedule top teams because they don’t feel it’s worth scheduling those tough games. Indiana won the national championship last year, and the Hoosiers haven’t played a tough non-conference schedule since Curt Cignetti became the coach.
Nebraska holds an 8-7-1 record against Notre Dame all-time. Notre Dame’s last win over the Huskers came in 1948.
