Illinois lands commitment from top 30 QB in Class of 2028

Class of 2028 quarterback Owen Herrick has committed to Illinois, according to a report from Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett Wednesday evening.
Herrick hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and plays for Pittsburgh Central Catholic high school, where he’s considered to be one of the 30 best quarterbacks in the 2028 cycle. Herrick chose the Fighting Illini over offers from Nebraska, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Arkansas and Minnesota, to name a few.
Herrick was originally offered by the Fighting Illini in May, the same day he received an offer from Nebraska. The 6-foot-2 quarterback is a senior this season and will surely pick up other offers as his final year in high school plays out.
As it currently stands, Herrick is considered to be the No. 419 overall prospect in the country, as well as the no. 28 QB and No. 14 prospect out of Pennsylvania according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Herrick is the first commitment of the Illini’s 2028 class thus far.
