Jeremiah Smith makes Ohio State history with latest milestone

Jeremiah Smith added yet another layer to his already legendary career in Columbus on Saturday afternoon, becoming the first wide receiver in Ohio State history to reach 3,000 career receiving yards.
The junior from South Florida accomplished the feat early in the 7th-ranked Buckeyes’ Big Ten opener against Illinois, thrilling the home fans just 1 week after becoming the all-time leader in receiving yards in Ohio State history in a blowout victory over Kent State.
Smith broke Michael Jenkins’ record in Week 3 with a catch that gave him 2,909 all-time receiving yards, and in Week 4 it didn’t take him long to reach that special 3,000-yard plateau.
Naturally, Smith put on a show in the 1st quarter on Saturday while reaching the 3,000-yard mark. All he did was catch 2 touchdowns in the opening period against Illinois, leading things off with this 7-yard scoring grab that gave Ohio State an early 7-0 lead:
But Smith was just getting started on Saturday. He revved up the engines on his 2nd touchdown of the 1st quarter, catching a 72-yard scoring strike from Julian Sayin to put the Buckeyes ahead, 14-0.
