The Texas Longhorns have had the difficult task of slowing down Jeremiah Smith in every season of the wideout’s collegiate career. They fared well the first two times, limiting Smith to a combined seven receptions for 46 yards.

In 2026, Smith finally got the best of Texas. He posted 8 catches, 164 yards and a touchdown against the Longhorns in Week 2. The performance ironically came in Steve Sarkisian’s lone victory in three-game set, but left him comparing Smith to an NFL legend ahead of Week 6. According to On3’s Tyler Horks, Sarkisian believes Smith’s ability to “take over a game” is comparable to that of Randy Moss.

“You better know where he is,” Sarkisian said. “He can strike the fear of God in you on any snap.”

Smith has made clear his desire to win the Heisman Trophy in 2026. So far, he’s well on his way to doing so. The junior receiver has already set Ohio State and Big Ten career records this season, and posted back-to-back double-digit catch, 200-yard, multi-touchdown games in Weeks 4 and 5:

  • vs. Illinois (9/26): 12 rec., 217 yards, 4 TD
  • at Iowa (10/3): 11 rec., 206 yards, 2 TD

Smith is in contention to be the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. He returns to the field in Week 6 when Ohio State takes on Maryland in Columbus (4:15 p.m. E.T.).
