Ohio State’s Nick Bosa doesn’t believe a defensive player will win the Heisman Trophy

You could make the argument that the two most dominant players in college football are on the defensive side of the ball. And if you think that’s crazy, you have seen Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver or Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa in action.

In two games this season, Bosa has recorded nine tackles, five for loss and three sacks. He’s nearly impossible for offensive lines to block and he’s a menace to every quarterback he faces. Some might even consider him a Heisman contender.

But ask the Buckeye defensive end if he thinks he’s deserving of Heisman consideration and he’ll give you one of those patented Bosa shoulder shrugs.

According to Austin Ward of Letterman Row, Bosa isn’t discussing the Heisman Trophy, saying “I don’t believe any defensive player is winning the Heisman.”

Bosa’s statement isn’t really off the mark. The Heisman Trophy has been won by just one primary defensive player — Michigan’s Charles Woodson — in 1997. Other than that, the award has been primarily handed to quarterbacks and running backs.

You know, the players that Bosa scares the living daylights out of every week.

Maybe the Heisman Trophy won’t go to another defensive player this year or anytime soon, but Bosa is definitely worthy of being in the conversation.
