Illinois continues to fight Penn State punch-for-punch. And the Illini even took a lead in the second half over the 10th-ranked Nittany Lions.

Early in the third quarter, the Illini offense was able get the first score of the second half, scoring a touchdown and taking a 24-21 lead over the Nittany Lions. And the touchdown came on an incredible trick play.

Quarterback M.J. Rivers pitched the ball to Trenard Davis, who found Ricky Smalling in the back of the end zone for a touchdown pass. It looks much more impressive than it sounds.

Not only did the Illini get a lead on the play, it was the first time an opponent has scored on the Nittany Lions in a third quarter all season. Not a bad outing for a four-touchdown underdog.
