One Power 5 coordinator has lost his job following a blowout in Week 4.

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson announced Sunday that defensive coordinator Jay Sawvel has been released. It is not too hard to understand why after looking at the results.

The Demon Deacons have allowed 134 points over the first four games of the season. However, it is the past two games that highlight the biggest problems. Wake Forest allowed 97 points in back-to-back losses to Boston College and Notre Dame and felt the need to make a change.

Sawvel does have time in the B1G after serving on the Minnesota coaching staff from 2011-15 as the DB coach and 2016 as the defensive coordinator. The Golden Gophers allowed 22.1 PPG in 2016 while finishing that year 9-4. Wake Forest allowed 28.3 PPG in 2017, Sawvel’s first season with the team.
