ESPN’s David Pollack says Ohio State has ‘something missing’

There hasn’t been much to criticize about Ohio State this year. Through the first six weeks of the season, the Buckeyes have been just about as dominant as you could imagine.
In the first half of the season, OSU has posted wins over two ranked opponents and has won the other four games in blowout fashion. Dwayne Haskins has performed at a Heisman level. The offense is as explosive as ever.
But ESPN college football analyst David Pollack believes there’s something a little off. So much so that he doesn’t trust the Buckeyes in big games.
“I’m starting to get the feeling that something is missing at Ohio State,” Pollack said on College Football Live. “The defensive line is so dirty and physical and such big guys. But they still give up so many yards and so many missed assignments and so many big plays.
“I just feel like there’s been something off with Ohio State in big games. I start to not trust them in those big moments.”
Pollack’s comments come after the Buckeyes struggled with Indiana at home for three quarters. However, they are just two weeks removed from knocking off then-No. 9 Penn State in Happy Valley by completing a 96-yard, game-winning drive.
So much for not trusting them in big moments.
It does seem like Pollack’s comments were more directed at the defense. Ohio State is allowing just 20 points per game this season, but is surrendering 365 yards per game on the season. That total ranks eighth in the B1G.
The Buckeyes will still have tests against Michigan State and Michigan as the season progresses. And, if they take care of business, they’ll wind up back in Indianapolis for the B1G Championship Game.
Ohio State’s defense has plenty of opportunities to prove Pollack wrong.
