Two B1G players have made the list of 13 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, presented to the “absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.”
Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley and Wisconsin safety D’Cota Dixon were the B1G’s two representatives to be named finalists. The list originally consisted of 179 names and has been trimmed to 13.
The finalists will each receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 60th NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. All will travel to New York City for the 61st NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The winner will be named at the event.
The winner will receive a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Schools have the opportunity to nominate one candidate from their team prior to the season. Players must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a 3.2 grade point average or higher and possess outstanding football ability. Candidates must also be a significant contributor to the team and have strong leadership and citizenship.
Virginia’s Micah Kiser was the recipient of the 2017 award.
