Michigan State cornerback Josiah Scott plans to redshirt this season and retain his year of eligibility.

Following the Spartans’ 24-3 win over Maryland on Saturday, Scott said he plans to utilize the new redshirt rule and plans to sit out one more game unless the Spartans make a push for the B1G title.

“If some things work out where we make a run for the B1G championship, I feel like we’ll take the redshirt off,” Scott said, according to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press. “But if it’s just staying like this, I feel like I’ll keep the redshirt and probably just sit out another game.”

Saturday marked the first time Scott has appeared in a game since suffering a knee injury. With the new redshirt rule, he’s permitted to play in four games and keep his redshirt.

With Michigan State’s win on Saturday, it’ll have three more regular season games and a bowl game remaining.

It’s unlikely that the Spartans will work their way back into the B1G title conversation. With losses to B1G East leader Michigan and B1G West leader Northwestern, Mark Dantonio’s bunch would need an awful lot of help.

Michigan State has games against No. 10 Ohio State, Nebraska and Rutgers remaining.
