Michigan’s 2020 recruiting class lost a valuable member on Monday morning.

Denver Warren, a 4-star defensive tackle out of Aurora, Illinois, announced via Twitter that he’ll be decommitting from Michigan and will reopen his recruitment. The top defensive lineman out of Illinois, Warren cited a lack of space along the Wolverines’ D-line behind his decision.

He posted a message regarding his decision early Monday morning.

“I would like to announce that I will be decommitting from the University of Michigan, due to the university not having enough room for me on the D-Line roster for 2020,” Warren said. “Thank you for all the support and love Ann Arbor. Thank you to my mom who’s been on this ride the whole time with me. I thank Coach Harbaugh and Coach Maddison. I will be opening my recruitment back up.”

He was the top-ranked recruit currently committed to Michigan’s 2020 class.

Warren, a 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive tackle, is ranked as the fourth-best player out of Illinois and a top 25 player at his position. Overall, he comes in at No. 257 in the 2020 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

Several B1G schools have expressed interest in Warren. Along with Michigan, he received offers from Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin. Outside the B1G, the defensive lineman received offers from Boston College, Iowa State and Syracuse.

The Wolverines are now down to five commits in the 2020 class. Prior to his decision to decommit, Michigan’s class ranked second in the B1G and sixth nationally.
