Imagine being a backup QB at a national powerhouse program.
You have to be pretty talented to be in that spot, but at the same time, you want to play. After all, you are the backup.
That is the case for QB Tate Martell at Ohio State. Martell, who was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school, is backing up Dwayne Haskins, who has been an absolute stud for the Buckeyes.
But again, Martell still wants to play one way or another. This is of course why we see certain players transfer. However, the word “transfer” and “Martell” haven’t come up.
During Tuesday’s Big Ten Teleconference, however, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer had this to say about his talented backup:
#Buckeyes Urban Meyer says conversations continue about how to work backup QB Tate Martell into games more often. Says Martell is "frustrated but positive. He just wants to play. He's an elite competitor."

Being frustrated is one thing, while being positive is another.
We’re not sure exactly what this means, but where this is smoke, there is fire. Martell wants to get on the field.
It’s just a matter of Meyer figuring out how.
