In the sports world, we’re truly in a different era now.
Not too long ago, the best players on one team hated the best players on another squad. There wasn’t much love going around.
But now, thanks to all of the tournaments and club sports going on, the stars from one city or state may know other stars from across the country pretty easily. Add in social media and cell phones to the mix, and it’s no wonder how athletes are so connected to one another.
Back 20 or 30 years ago, this bit of news may seem absolute insane. But in 2018, this can almost be seen as normal: Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins talked with Michigan QB Shea Patterson about Michigan State and its defense.
Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins said he talked to Shea Patterson Tuesday about Michigan State. "I've known Shea since I was in eighth grade. We played in an All-Star game together, Elite 11. I hit him up asking about how they play defensively, and he gave me some tips."

Again, tournaments, club teams, Elite 11 competitions — there’s no end to it. Talented guys like Haskins know of the other great QBs around the country even before he earns his starting role in college.
Not too long ago, Haskins talked about how he knows Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa quite well. Apparently, he knows Patterson, too.
Sorry, Spartans.
